About Me

Between the covers...

My name is Denise Hill-MacDonald.  I learned to read before I even started school. I spent much of my life walking around with a book of some sort in my hands. I even tried to get into audio books so that I could listen while walking my dogs (it didn't work out for me, I don't have the attention span to listen while doing other things!). I cannot give away a book that I really liked, even though the chances of me ever reading it again are next to none. It just feels like I'm giving away a part of myself. I'm sure other book lovers will understand this. A few years ago a friend told me about Goodreads.com. I joined immediately and loved the features it provided. Now, I use it to keep track of my books, write reviews and participate in book clubs. I felt like the next step for me was to create a book review blog.

Outside the covers...

In my non-reading life I am a Youth Counselor and an Independent Beach Body Coach, with aspirations of becoming a Life Coach. I believe reading so much has helped me with both of these jobs because I am great at researching information on any topic and picking out what is important and what isn't. Loving to read also comes in handy with all the training I chose to do.

When I'm not reading or working you can find me outside gardening (very amateur gardening, that is!), camping, at the beach or hanging out with my family and friends. I also have a new found passion for exercise. And, since I have two dogs, I play a lot of fetch! Everyday, several times a day, I play fetch!

This is Shylo, as you can see, she loves to read also!

And this is Gentry, she loves to play fetch!

I am married to my wonderful husband, Jim. I think my main reason for marrying him is that he didn't complain (too much) about all my books overtaking our apartment! But I love him for lots of other reasons, of course!

Where the covers are located...

I live on a small island on the east coast of Canada.

Cape Breton, Nova Scotia is known for it's beautiful scenery, music and the friendly folks who live here. It was voted one of the most romantic places to visit.

There are some beautiful beaches here, of course, it has to be warm enough out to hit them up in order to enjoy them.

There are lots of hiking trails, places to fish, golfing, places to experience the music scene and plenty of cabins and campgrounds. We have a short summer- 3 months at most, two of which are good beach weather and a very long winter.

Of course, if you like winter weather there is lots to do here- skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and shoveling snow!
